October 10, 2011 Hooray for Miss Kristi and Miss Abbi!
The Studio of Dance & Music is very proud of dance faculty members Abbi Henninger and Kristi Kleine, both of whom were invited to dance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. with The Suzanne Farrelll Ballet's production of George Balanchine's "Diamonds". We hope that this will be a fabulous experience for them, and trust that it will enrich them as people, as performers, and as teachers. We are very grateful to have these lovely and talented young women on our faculty.

July 7, 2011 CONGRATULATIONS, DANCERS!
Four of our competition team dancers performed at the STARBOUND NATIONAL COMPETITION this past weekend in Orlando. Tap duo Alicia Bisplinghoff and Jaimi McPeek "struck Gold" in their best-ever performance on Friday night. Also earning Gold Awards were Rebecca Weinstein and Jaimi McPeek for their jazz duo on Saturday morning. Although modern dance soloist Allie Campbell had a spill (due to the stage being slick from a fog machine used prior to her dance), she got right back up again and continued her dance like a pro, earning a High Silver Award. We are very proud of all of our dancers, and of their fabulous teacher and coach, Miss Kristi Kleine.
June 16, 2011 MANY HANDS
It takes MANY HANDS TO MAKE LIGHT WORK, and we are SO THANKFUL for all of those who helped make our Spring Dance Recital, "SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP", a great success.
Our wonderful volunteers manned the table in the lobby, took tickets and handed out programs at the door, built sets, provided props, made signs, created artwork for the program cover and tee shirt, provided privacy partitions to make a classroom into a dressing room, helped students back stage with hair, make-up, and quick changes, and supervised children's classes during the show. It is harder to choreograph all of that than it is to choreograph the dances for the show!
The list of volunteers is too long to post here... that just shows you how many helpers it takes to make shows like this run smoothly. But everyone played a very important part, and we are deeply grateful.
June 14, 2011 COMIC RELIEF!
After a long, exhausting production week of photos and rehearsals for "SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP" Dance Recital 2011, we got some comic relief at the second (Lakewood Ranch) show. First, little 3 year old Mia saw me doing the "Devil with a Blue Dress" tap dance and said to her backstage supervisor, "That's Ms. Julia! Ididn't know HER could dance!" So cute and funny!
THEN, at the Finale, as I was doing a quick change from my blue fringe dress into my finale dress, I couldn't get my zipper up! Mr. Dennis was on the other side of the stage so, he had no idea what was going on! Several ladies were trying to help me out but that zipper was just STUCK! So, when he announced my name, I went running out onto the stage holding the back of my dress closed with one hand! The kids behind me were cracking up!
Ha ha ha! Funny way to end the show. The show must go on, right?!
Thanks to everyone for two wonderful shows! I hope you had a blast. Just remember to beware of what may come out of the mouths of little babes, and of wardrobel malfunctions!
Love, Ms. Julia
May 24, 2011 CONGRATULATIONS MUSIC STUDENTS!
We are SO PROUD of the students that participated in our 6th ANNUAL SPRING MUSIC RECITALS on Saturday, May 21. Each student played or sang beautifully, and with grace and dignity. For several students this was their first music recital ever - and even though they were nervous, they did an excellent job. It is so gratifying to see the confidence children gain when they do something they were a little scared to do. GOOD JOB, STUDENTS and TEACHERS, and thanks to PARENTS, FAMILY and FRIENDS who came out to support our young musicians!

April 14, 2011 STARBOUND... HERE WE COME!
Our competition team dancers will perform on Saturday, April 16 in their first competition of the season. They will attend "Starbound Dance Competition" in Lakeland at the Polk Theatre. First thing in the morning Katherine Broussard is doing a lyrical solo choreographed by Kristi Kleine to "Can't Help Falling In Love". When you see Katherine do it, you can't help falling in love with HER! She's lovely! Good luck getting up early, Katherine!
In the afternoon Caroline Cestaro and Tyler Libera will perform their Lyrical Duet to "The Climb", which is a song about overcoming adversity. Maggie Murray is their choreographer. Both girls study ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical. Although they are in their fourth year of ballet, this is the first year they have studied lyrical dance, and they love it! This is their first time participating in a dance competition... very exciting!
Also performing in their first dance competition event are Jaimi McPeek, Rebecca Weinstein, and Alicia Bisplinghoff. The first two girls pair up to do a Jazz Duo to "Let's Get Together" then Jaimi pairs up with Alicia for a Tap Duet to "High School Confidential". These high energy routines were choreographed and taught by Kristi Kleine. The tap dancers will need to catch a cat nap in the afternoon as they are not scheduled to perform until 10:30 PM!
Allie Campbell performs her Modern solo, "Idioteque", choreographed by Kristi Kleine earlier in the evening. This piece is dramatic and dynamic, and Allie performs it with great intensity and energy.
We thank Miss Kristi and Miss Maggie for sharing their gifts with the girls, and appreciate their dedication and efforts. We are proud of all of these dancers for the hard work they have put into training for this event, and wish them well on Saturday! Have fun girls, and take lots of pictures!
