Students use tap shoes to spell out rhythms. Barre and centre work develop proper technique, good balance and teach students to make sounds clear and musical. Centre combinations start with single tap sounds (stamps, stomps, steps, taps, drops, digs, brushes), progress to double sounds (shuffles, ball changes, riffs) and continue on to multiple sounds (Irish, cramp rolls, buffaloes, etc.) The Basics of Waltz Clog, Soft Shoe and Time Steps are introduced as students develop skill. Turns, traveling steps and other across floor combinations are also included. Tap dance routines are taught to expose students to various tap styles and to train them to pick up choreography and put steps together quickly.
